Last.fm Artists
Last.fm Artists is a WordPress plugin that allows a user to display images of their top artists, recently lisetened to artists, and the artists of their recently loved tracks. It will download the images of the artists, resize them, and display them in a list so they can be put on their blog. An example can be seen to the right.
Features:
- Show your top artists of all time
- Show your top artists over a period of the last 7 days, 3 months, 6 month, or 1 year.
- Show your recently listened to artists
- Show the artists of your recently loved tracks
- Show the images as either a square or wide rectangle
- Display information about an artist and your playcount or time last played of the artist
- Edit the CSS or choose from several pre-built styles

I going to work on a non-widget version today so hopefully that will be out soon. That’s weird that the cache directory wasn’t automatically created. I’ll have to work on that.

Just updated to 1.0.5 which adds non-widget support. Read the readme.txt for instructions on how to use it.

I’m trying to add my username in the admin panel, but whenever I do, it tells me “Please enter correct username.”
Is it because it has weird characters? (My last.fm username is “trash___”)

Hey again,
tried to install version 1.0.8, but even though I created a cache folder at ‘/wp-content/lastfmcache/’ with CHMOD of 0755, like it told me to, it still comes up with the same warnings:

hello !
been all over the wordpress plugins and google trying to find a wordpress plugin for last.fm that is supported by php 4. i see from the wordpress plugin page for this that it requires php 5, is there any previous versions that support php4 or can you point me in the right direction of a plugin that does? i am hoping to have it display artist picture or album artwork for my weekly top artists…
any help is appreciated!

I believe I have installed the plugin successful. However, there is this message I am getting instead of the actually images:
” No images to display. The feed is down. ”
What exactly does this mean? How can I fix this?

The “No images to display. The feed is down.” means that there is nothing in the feed. If you’re newly registered, then it would take about a week for the feed to be populated. If you’re not newly registered, then check your user name, make sure it’s typed correctly and that there are no extra spaces.
As for support for php4, I know of no other plugin that does this and support php4. I recommend asking your host to upgrade to php5 as php5 is widely supported now.

I just installed this plugin ! Great.
But it displays some information I don’t need.
I want the image, the artist name and the amount of plays. Just like on this website in the right upper corner.
How do I do that?

How do I get it to show track info? Want to show my loved tracks … but I just get artists.

Ger: Last.fm Artists does not have individual track support. And as of right now, there are no plans to add track support in the next version. Track support would require a lot of reworking of the current code to implement correctly as the way Last.fm handles tracks is very different than the way they handle artists or albums.
Werner: The next version of Last.fm Artists, which is coming soon, will have the ability to pick and choose what information you want displayed.
As for the “No images to display. The feed is down.” problem, I have narrowed it down to mainly be a problem of hosts not supporting PHP5. If you get this error message, please make sure PHP5 is enable through your control panel. There are a lot of hosts that support PHP5 but it has to be turned on manually.

Great plugin!
But, there seems to be a problem when it comes to displaying artist with non-English name, such as 菅野よう子.
The generated thumb will end up saving as è…野よã†å65square.jpg and the img tag couldn’t find 菅野よう子65square.jpg.
Is there anyway to fix this? Maybe to save thumb using different names?

Is there a way, when someone clicks on an artist it opens up in a new page? I want visitors to say on my blog, I’m afraid if the go to Last.fm they won’t come back
In a new page at least both my site and the last.fm page is open at the same time. Thanks. I really love this plugin.

First, great plugin and thanks for all the work.
I’m wondering if there is a way to have it pull in album art instead of just an artist image? I know this plugin is called “artists” and maybe that was one of your purposes for creating this plugin to set it apart from others, but I notice on your site here you have album art in your Last.Fm feed.

Album art is in the next version which is mostly done right now. I’m currently working on the documentation right now because a lot of things have changed. After that, the next version should be released.

I have data in my account and created the lastfmcache directory manually as others have had to. Running PHP 5 as well. However, I’m getting this error:
Warning: imagecreatefromstring() [function.imagecreatefromstring]: Empty string or invalid image in [...]/html/wp-content/plugins/lastfm-artists/lastfm.php on line 159
Could not create images.
(full path removed above)
Any ideas on what the problem may be?

I have the plugin to come off “RECENTLY PLAYED”. However, the artists photos on my website are remaining the same. How does it RECENT function actually work and (while on the last.fm website) how would I actually be able to play the songs so it can appear on the site? I hope I was clear…
